Encounter with a Pair in Black Robes in the Forest
Notestrong language
The story might not be mystical, but it's kind of strange.
Anyway, my grandpa used to be an avid mushroom picker. Used to be, that's about 20 years ago, now he's 85 and has bad legs, but in the early 2000s he would literally spend days in the forest every autumn. This particular story happened around 2003. It was late September, a nice warm day. Grandpa had gone deep into the forest, since he knew a few good spots where you could literally fill a whole basket with mushrooms and/or berries in half an hour (well, typical words of any avid mushroom picker). And sure enough, grandpa really did pick a shitload of mushrooms, but he got a bit tired and decided to rest. He sat down in the shade, pulled out a bottle of beer (grandpa always went to the forest with beer and homemade croutons, tradition) and started, well, resting.
And then he hears - seems like someone's walking. First the crack of branches, then voices. Usually nobody except grandpa himself went that far out (6.5 km from the village, I measured the distance later and personally went to those places, by the way), so grandpa was a bit surprised, but decided to wait and see who was walking there. And then bam - two figures in completely black clothing come out from behind the trees. At first grandpa didn't get it, and then suddenly he did - a monk with a nun. Real ones, in those robes or whatever they're called. Walking through the forest, talking to each other, not looking around. So grandpa quietly crouched down and moved under a fir tree so they wouldn't notice him. They were about 50 meters away from him, but grandpa was sitting kind of on a rise, there was something like a small ravine, tree roots sticking out of the sand and hanging over the pit. Anyway, those two walked past grandpa and disappeared behind the trees. The monk was very tall, and the nun was two or three heads shorter than him. Absolutely real, not ghosts, because grandpa heard their voices, heard the crack of branches under their feet. But he still freaked the fuck out, because for many hundreds of km around there were no monasteries or anything like that. Let me remind you, grandpa had gone 6.5 km into the forest, and it was about the same distance to the next village. In the other two directions there was nothing but forests and fuck-all else.
And here's the second thing. A few years later, an acquaintance of grandpa's, who also likes to wander through the forest, said that he too had met a monk and a nun walking somewhere through the forest. He was riding a motorcycle through the forest and saw the two of them walking through a tree line. And he also freaked the fuck out from the surprise and the unnaturalness of what was happening. And a couple of days later, that acquaintance's best man said that he had been periodically seeing this pair in the forest for several years already. Fuck knows why, but none of them even thought to go up to them and at least ask what the hell they were wandering around here for and who they even were.

Possible ordinary explanations
Suggested by the editor, not the witness. Not a verdict.
- The figures could have been real people — perhaps pilgrims, hermits, or members of an unregistered religious community living in the forest.
- The grandfather may have misidentified ordinary hikers or locals in dark clothing as monastics.
- The later accounts could be influenced by the grandfather's story, creating a shared expectation or false memory among acquaintances.
