People in an Unlit Elevator
Notestrong language
I live in a new high-rise tower, in the entrance there are two elevators — a freight one and a passenger one. I have a habit of looking at which elevator is on the first floor and only then pressing the button. And so, when the passenger one is on the first floor, it happens that I press the call button, and there's some fuckface standing in the cabin, stands there and then goes about their business. It would seem there's nothing strange about that, but the elevator was already standing there, not moving. After a couple of such "occurrences," I started waiting about five seconds before pressing the button, just out of curiosity. Anyway, it wasn't my imagination — people really just stand there without light, fuck, in the elevator and only come out after someone opens the door for them. I found out that the light turns off in the cabin by accident — when I was staring at my phone and didn't press my floor button all the way. At first I got scared that I was stuck, but then I tried pressing again — the light came on, the elevator started moving. In the freight one the light also goes out, but there I never ran into anyone.
I don't know what kind of person you'd have to be not to at least try pressing the button to get out. And they come out silently, I would definitely warn my "savior" that the elevator supposedly isn't moving and the light isn't on. And it's unlikely they all miss the button. But the other option is even dumber: arrive at the first floor, zone out, wait for the doors to close, not open the doors with the button, and stand there like a dumbass.

Possible ordinary explanations
Suggested by the editor, not the witness. Not a verdict.
- The elevator light has a timer and turns off automatically, so people are just standing in the dark waiting for someone to open the door.
- The narrator may be misinterpreting the situation due to the elevator's motion or lighting conditions.
- People might be pressing the button but the elevator door doesn't open from inside due to a malfunction, so they wait for someone outside.
