Night Visitor at a Logging Site
Notementions deathstrong language
This story isn't about a night shift, but still. My uncle told it to me. In the late nineties he and his brother were in the logging business, and they had their own plot. Anyway, they were sawing firewood one time, and suddenly one of their chainsaws broke. They fixed it and fixed it, in short they fucked around with that saw until nightfall. It was a long way to drive home, so they decided to spend the night in the forest. They built a fire, ate, knocked back some vodka, sitting there talking. Suddenly a little guy walks up to them. Where he came from — no idea, it's the middle of nowhere all around. Well, they welcomed him, fed him, gave him a drink, the little guy cheered up, started asking them what they were doing in the forest at night. The uncle told him. The little guy says, like, show me the saw, I know a bit about them, maybe I can fix it. Anyway, he took the saw, tinkered with it for about five minutes, turned the carburetor, and the saw came to life. The uncle got happy, started offering him money, but the little guy refused. He only asked that they light a candle for him in church, and said his name was Yegor. The uncle agreed and didn't attach any significance to Yegor's strange request. They went to sleep, and when they woke up in the morning, the little guy was gone. Only later, a few months after, the uncle found out that a couple of years back a feller had died at that very plot, and his name was Yegor. The uncle went to church right away and ordered a memorial service for him. And that chainsaw kept working for a long time after — the deceased sure tuned it up well, may he rest in peace.

- A local mechanic or fellow logger wandering the area at night who happened to know how to fix chainsaws.
- The men had been drinking and may have misremembered or embellished the encounter.
- The story may have been passed down and altered over time, with the coincidence of the name added later.
