Night Incident at the Depot: Self-Turning Radio and Falling Mattresses
Notementions deathstrong language
I worked at the railway depot 10+ years ago. We mostly slept in train cars, or wherever we could; I slept in the shop where wheel pairs were turned, in a stinking smoke break room on a bench smeared with soot. Then in the garage with tractors, then I got hold of keys to a one-story building at the deadest end of the depot, hell knows what to call it, anyway there were lots of bunk beds, something like a dorm, and in that building at the end of the corridor with the beds there was a dark toilet with a rusty sink and a toilet bowl, and there, as they said, a khokhol hanged himself. A crew of khokhols from Donbass had come to replace pipes and the fence at the depot, earning pennies basically, and they weren't paid, screwed over basically, so that khokhol hanged himself there, meaning he didn't want to go home without the money, that was before me. So I lie down and sleep, and the beds were piled with some piss-stained mattresses, basically it was soft, comfortable. I had a Degen radio, I often took it with me to listen to medium and short waves at night. And who knows, to turn it on you have to press a button on the front panel, a bright orange backlight comes on and it starts blaring loudly. So I'd just fallen asleep, and then the radio, which was on the floor next to the bed, turns on. And such a clear feeling of presence, like someone is standing next to the bed. I turned off the radio and said: go fuck yourself. And then the mattresses from the top bunk came pouring down on me, like someone had pulled them off. Anyway, I never slept in that barracks again. They also scared me with a story that further along the tracks as you leave the depot, there's a small obelisk with a metal photo of a woman who was killed here long ago, and supposedly at night she walks to the garage and peeks in the windows. I walked along the tracks and specifically looked but found no fucking obelisk, but at night I myself peeked in the garage window, and there my partner Ermek had knocked back some booze and was lying drunk on the couch with the TV blaring.

Possible ordinary explanations
Suggested by the editor, not the witness. Not a verdict.
- The radio may have had a faulty power button or a timer that caused it to turn on spontaneously.
- The mattresses could have been unstable and fallen due to vibration or the narrator's movement.
- The feeling of presence and the story of the hanged man could be explained by heightened suggestibility in a spooky environment.
